A Few Things You May Not Know
I was recently reviewing Blog Catalog and came upon a topic asking the reader to post five good things about President Bush. I found this request interesting, since most people would jump at listing five “bad” things, but I thought “Good” things would never be listed. I mean I have read comments on there that compare President Bush to Hitler and Sadam Hussein. Comments like these reinforce my thoughts about how stupid the writer was and how their comparison only takes away from the real atrocities these two animals committed.
As I read the first few smart-ass replies, it became clear where the thread was going exactly where I thought it would go. In no time, the thread was full of things like:
1. Nothing,
2. Never actually nuked anything, tho tanks fire shells with uranium tips that cause birth defects in Iraqis
3. Never actually killed anybody himself, just delegated.
4. He'll be out of office soon
5. I'd like to make a love sandwich with his daughters and be the meaty middle
Some of these responses may have been made in jest, but for the most part they were derogatory comments about the President of the United States. Try that shit in China…
Now, I’m not saying President Bush has not had his share of problems and he has made some questionable decisions. However, the ignorant statements made by these individuals in this thread highlight an even bigger problem in America.
Americans are all too quick to jump on the latest “dirt” and believe just about anything. So enter the Americans United For Change who’s intentions are to smear Bush and prevent any Republican candidate from gaining momentum in this fall’s election. This group plans to spend over $8 million to keep Bush in a bad light and to tie all his shortcomings to any Republican seeking the Presidency. All in an effort to push their agenda.
So bring these two elements together and you have the makings for one hell of a problem facing the American election system. Gone are the debates about issues and things that matter to the American people. Today, it is all about how much bullshit you can stir concerning your opponent. Just look at the current mud fest between Obama and Clinton. Both of them are lying through their teeth in an effort to hang on to their dream of the Presidency.
So in an effort to shed some positive light on old George W. Bush, I’m offering up a few quotes that you may not know:
“…the 1.4 million men, women and children who are alive because of treatment received through his AIDS initiative . . . "besides" the unquestioned gains of African American and Hispanic students in math and reading . . . "besides" 32 million seniors getting help to afford prescription drugs, including 10 million low-income seniors who get their medicine pretty much free.” Michael Gerson
“ To be fair, the legacy of George W. Bush is not without its merits. There is certainly much to admire about the President, both personally and professionally.” Monti Narayan Datta
“But he will deserve high marks for his leadership in mobilizing US aid to fight AIDS overseas. On Wednesday, he asked Congress to spend an additional $30 billion in assistance over five years.” Boston.com / News
“Between 2000 and 2003, productivity grew at the fastest three year rate in more than 50 years.”
“In September 2003, the U.S. Department of Commerce reported the lowest unemployment rate (5.4%) since October 2001.”
“The president's tax relief allowed families to keep more of what they earn by cutting tax rates across the board.” US. Department of State
