In a post I wrote here, I mentioned that Mesothelioma was one cause of death that could be prevented. One way to prevent it is to know where it can be found. How about in everyday products? According to the ADAO Product Testing, "Asbestos is in Children’s Toys, Appliances, Hardware & Household Goods and Home & Garden Items". I received the following important information everyone should now about Asbestos and Mesothelioma.
I wanted to pass on this information from ADAO, as it not only highlights the important work being done by that organization, but it underscores the need for tighter regulation and enforcement of any asbestos policy that is developed here in the US. We have all known victims who have no occupational exposure to asbestos, and who are hard-pressed to identify a significant exposure incident in their past history. This may go a long way toward explaining these mysteries, and certainly, should raise the alarm of those who are currently unaffected and believe that they are "safe".
For those who will be advocating with their legislators, this information should help provide impetus for a ban, as well as for upgrading the outdated language regarding what constitutes asbestos. To assess current risks by utilizing science that is obsolete by more than 40 years is folly, and guarantees a steady stream of new victims for years to come. June
