Woodward: The Press Is 'Taking the Bait' and Getting 'Unhinged' over Trump's Attacks

Sat, 11/10/2018 - 05:57
On Friday’s “Overtime” segment of HBO’s “Real Time,” journalist and author Bob Woodward stated that the press is “taking the bait” and getting “all steamy and emotionally unhinged” in its response to President Trump’s attacks on the media. Woodward said, “I think that we’re taking the bait in the press. And Trump is just throwing it out on the table and saying, you know, you’re the enemy of the people. And then we get all steamy and emotionally unhinged about it.” He continued that media outlets should follow up on good stories written by other outlets, which “means lots of work. And, let’s face it, we’ve become lazy, and we have to stop becoming lazy.” Woodward later added that the tax cuts are an example of a story that the media missed. Maher: Whitaker Is 'Just a Stooge,' 'That's a Red Line'

Sat, 11/10/2018 - 05:31
On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher stated that Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker is “just a stooge” who is there to do what President Trump wants, and this is “a red line” and “the slow-moving coup.” After mentioning other things, such as the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that are considered red lines, Maher said, “To me, this Whitaker guy, that’s a red line. When you start putting the top cop of the country as just a stooge, just a guy who’s there to do the bidding of the supreme leader, that’s the slow-moving coup.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

Maher: Florida Is 'a Dress Rehearsal' for Trump Not Leaving Office if He Loses in 2020

Sat, 11/10/2018 - 05:30
On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher argued that President Trump’s involvement in the election controversy in Florida is “a dress rehearsal” for Trump refusing to leave office if he loses in 2020. Maher stated, “I don’t think he’s leaving, if — even if he loses the election in 2020, and I think what you see going on right now in Florida, there’s this recount. He’s involved. He’s already talking about it a lot. I think that’s a dress rehearsal for what we’re going to see if he does lose in 2020. I do not see a scenario that we’ve seen on January 20th of the next year, where he welcomes the winner graciously.” He later added that reporters should ask other Republicans, “what about two terms for the president, would you come out on record and say there is no situation in which a president can serve more than two terms? If that’s not a red line — and I bet you they hem and haw.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchett

How about Don Lemon, how about LeBron James, how about the NFL football players? Constant attacks on black people.” He continued, “Colin Kaepernick, I mean, let’s be honest here, there is also a huge racial dimension to this. The fact that the president is always attacking black people.” He added, “The idea that this was some random selection of journalists he doesn’t like is not the case. Dave Chappelle: Trump Tore Us Up -- He's 'Not Culturally Astute' Enough to Heal the Nation

Sat, 11/10/2018 - 00:01
Friday 0n MSNBC’s “Deadline,” guest host John Heilemann played a clip from his Showtime show “The Circus” of an interview with comedian Dave Chappelle. When asked about President Donald Trump’s job performance, Chappelle said, “Apparently he is having a terrible go of it. I don’t think that he is living up to his part of the bargain, and I’m troubled by politicians that only speak to people that they believe will vote for them. And it is sad because, you know, he’s got the bully pulpit. It’s the highest office in our land. Hopefully, we can either hold him to task or get someone in there that will think about all of us.” He added, “I want the country to survive this guy, and I’m sure it will. But I think that there will be a hangover after this presidency, unlike anything that I’ve ever lived through. I think that we’ve gone far rhetorically. And I think that we just got a little mending to do. And I don’t think that he is the kind of person that is culturally astute enough to really lead the charge on mending the fence. But he sure did tear it the shit up didn’t he?” Follow
